Dr. Shaman

It’s mainly based on american physician and writer Robin Cook’s thinkings, about how doctors are so deified they end up being like modern shamans, bearers of the “mysterious” power of healing (and also weigth loss, rejuvenation, embelishment…), while medicine actually is such an uncertain and and liable to human failures science as any other.

This work is also about the use of Amazon products for the manufacturing of lab medicines, which shows how shaman physicism is not so inferior to ours as one may think.

I must say this drawing, today, with all that North Korea nuclear weapons stuff, makes much more sense than when I made it. Truth is it’s about an almost timeless issue regarding the United States: the unavoidable contradictions in which will fall any nation that wants to play Sheriff of the World – the old “who will guard the guardians?” dilemma.

Inner Beauty

The idea came out while I was reading a magazine in the waiting room of a clinic. I saw the ads for some deodorant or skin cream, and on its flask there was a picture of a woman, but only from the nose down. No big deal so far, but then my mind went beyond and thought “they don’t really need the upper part anyway, she is just a pretty face”, and from there to the rest of the story, and of the series, I think it’s possible to guess…

The drawing “…see the heart,…“, had to be remade, because the original was too smaller than the other two of the series, and, apart from that, several mistakes at the framing process ended up damaging the work irreversibly. Basically, the framer misunderstood my instructions of where to cut the drawing :\… Anyway, I’m posting both the original and the new version of it.

See the brain,…

See the brain,...

…see the heart,… (original)

...see the heart,... (original)

…see the heart,… (remake)

...see the heart,...

…and, only then, the body.

...and, only then, the body.
